A line of products that relate to our core materials that have a
Pozzotive™ effect and footprint on our Earth.
Pozzolite™ (est. 1993) is the trade name that we use for our product which is technically described as a "Naturally Calcined Clay".
Pozzolite™ is a derivative of the word Pozzolan a term that was taken from the City of Pozzuoli (Naples) where natural Pozzolans were thought to have first been used around 500 B.C.
Wikipedia describes Pozzolan in the following.
A pozzolan is a siliceous or siliceous and aluminous material which, in itself, possesses little or no cementitious value but which will, in finely divided form and in the presence of water, react chemically with calcium hydroxide at ordinary temperature to form compounds possessing cementitious properties (ASTM C618). The broad definition of a pozzolan imparts no bearing on the origin of the material, only on its capability of reacting with calcium hydroxide and water.
A quantification of this capability is comprised in the term pozzolanic activity.

Concrete
Pozzolite™ from this deposit has been used commercially in concrete mix designs from at least 1960 and most notably was incorporated in the mix-design for the cement that went into the construction of the Bennett Dam (1961 — 1968) see Wikipedia for further details. During this period the product was produced by Crownite a subsidiary company of Dome Petroleum.
Current testing and trialing has been carried out by the current owner and the results have been reconfirmed to meet or exceed all the requirements of ASTM and specifically ASTM C618-00 and ASTM C311-00.
As well as meeting and exceeding the requirements for CSA A3001.
Testing and trialing has also been carried out following EN 196-5 (European Standards) and the results also meet or exceed the requirements for applications as Pozzolan.
Pozzolite™ is a tested and accepted source of SCM (Supplementary Cementing Material) or "Natural Pozzolan" by several of the largest cement companies in the world.
Pozzolite™ has been described as being "in the top three in the world for quality" as a "natural pozzolan" by cement professionals in Canada, United States, United Emirates and Europe through their own independent trial results.
Lightweight Aggregate For Lightweight Masonry Units
Pozzolite™ has been tested and trialed for use as a lightweight aggregate for lightweight masonry units as well as other concrete precast structural and nonstructural units.
The use of Pozzolite™ in a lightweight concrete mix design shows results that meet and exceed the requirements for structural lightweight building block.
The result of using Pozzolite™ also gives a very pleasing finished look for the the smooth and split face block.
Some of the ASTM tests covered are;
- ASTM C 331
- ASTM C 330
- ASTM C 136 - 14
- ASTM C 117-13
- ASTM C 127
- ASTM C 128
Lightweight Aggregate for Construction Backfill
Pozzolite™ from this deposit been tested and trialed for use as a lightweight aggregate for Construction trench backfill where vertical load and other Geotechnical challenges prevail on a jobsite.
Other applications include but not limited to are; Structural fill, Site grading fill, Pavement subgrade, Drainage, Reduction of lateral pressures, Pest control.
Study materials have been covered for "Recommended Placement Method", Seismic Design, Environmental excavation and replacement.
ASTM Tests Completed
- ASTM D 698 - Standard Proctor Denisty
- ASTM C 136 - Grain Size Analysis
- ASTM C 131 - LA Abrasion Test
- ASTM C 88 - Soundness Test
- ASTM C 128 - Absorption Test
Other Testing
- Pour Density
- Mechanical Durability
- Compaction
- Weathering Durability
- Saturation Potential
- Density Increase with Saturation
-Durability Decrease with Saturation
RCC and CVC for Hydro Dam Structures
- Detailed information available.
Filtration Mediums
In depth testing and trialing has also been done with Pozzolite™ as a filtration medium for the removal of metals from water solutions (trace metal removal capacity). Analysis was performed using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP/MS) or Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry.
Pozzolite™ as a filtration medium has demonstrated strong abilities for the removal of contaminants from an aqueous waste stream particularly Ammonia, Phosphates, Arsenic, Barium, Iron, Molybdenum, Lead, Thorium, Selenium, Uranium, Vanadium and several other substances.
Floor Dry Desiccant and Absorbent
Pozzolite™ has excellent absorbent qualities for all liquids particularly hydro carbons, liquid chemicals and other solutions on concrete floors, asphalt surfaces and areas.
Sports Surfaces
Pozzolite™ is successfully used in several different mix designs for playfield and sports field applications.
Landscape Materials
Santa Fe Shale™ another trade mark name for our naturally calcined shale is used as landscape ground cover material which controls weed growth and gives a very pleasing multi colored look to your landscaping project. This product has been used throughout western Canada by homeowners and retail Landscape Centers since 2000.
We would be pleased to look at your required specifications for your application and quote you on supply of Pozzolite™ or Santa Fe Shale™ delivered or FOB our site.
MEM Mines Act Permit in place through to 2028 with all rights renewable at that time.
Delivery
The Pozzolite™ source and DistributionCenter is serviced by its privately owned rail siding and contract bulk trucks and is also available FOB its site to load customers trucks. Pozzolite™ is readily available to tidewater at two major British Columbia Ports. Custom bagging in one tonne tote bags or 50 lb paper or plastic bags is available as well.
